Group Leader Qualifications
These essential skills are required of all group leaders:
1. Independently plan and carry out academic enrichment and recreational activities for a group of children.
2. Teach and model social skills, personal responsibility, respect, etc.
3. Support the goals and objectives of the District and Discovery Club.
4. Carry out appropriate health and safety procedures for the protection of the children in the program.
5. Provide appropriate behavior guidance for students and take appropriate disciplinary action.
6. Maintain appropriate contact and communications with parents/guardians of students enrolled in Discovery Club as well as other school personnel.
7. Attend recommended training and required staff meetings.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
Course work and/or experience in education, recreation, or other child-related fields with children ages 4-6 or 5-12 to equal one of the following options is required:
1. 3120 hours supervised work experience with children; or
2. AA degree or vocational certification in child development, etc., and 1040 hours supervised work experience with children; or
3. 2 years full time post-secondary training or its equivalent and 1040 hours supervised work experience with children; or
4. BA/BS in any field plus 1040 hours supervised work experience with children; or
5. BA/BS with elementary licensure or student teaching or relevant age group completed.
6. Must demonstrate continued professional development through inservice, and/or course work.
